FileBack PC 3.2 Beta - November 3, 1998 Release
===============================================
Thank you for your recent purchase or taking the time
to evaluate FileBack PC. You have selected one of the
premiere file backup software utilities available for
Windows 95 and NT.
Installation Instructions
=========================
After unzipping the FileBack.zip archive, locate the
SETUP.EXE program file and double-click to start it.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the
FileBack PC program file. If you have a previous
version of FileBack PC installed on your computer
you should install the new copy in the same location
as the old copy.
Note: You must close any previous version of FileBack PC
before attempting to copy the new program file.
Automatic Startup
=================
Previous versions of FileBack PC were set to auto-load at
Windows startup by default. With this installation, this
has changed; in order to set FileBack PC to auto-load,
navigate to the "Options" page and select one of the "Load
at Windows Startup" options.
If you later decide to uninstall FileBack PC, you will need
to turn these options off before uninstalling the software
to prevent an error at Windows startup afterward.
(Unfortunately, the uninstallation software being used does
not take care of this situation.)
A note on beta products
=======================
This release of FileBack PC is in beta status. This means
that it has not yet been tested thoroughly and may still
contain bugs. Maximum Output Software disclains all
responsibility from damage caused by this product.
If you encounter what you believe to be a bug, please
send a thorough description to Maximum Output Software
at mos-bugs@inconnect.com. We will do our best to
rectify the situation.
Note other note regarding beta status: the help file for
the beta version has not been completed. Rather than
not supply a help file, the help file for version 3.1b
is included.
For users of the trial version
==============================
The trial version of FileBack PC includes all of the
functionality of the registered network enabled version.
The only difference between the trial version and a
registered network version is the limit of two backup
entries in the trial version.
If FileBack is registered as a standalone version the
network functionality will be disabled. This will
prevent backups from being processed to or from network
drives, and will disable the network connection restoration
features as well.
For users of Version 3.0x
=========================
With this version the registration code format has changed.
Though old registration codes will not work with this version,
if you install version 3.1 over the top of a previous
version the registration information will be updated for
you.
If you were issued a registration code for version 3.0
(these codes were 26 alphabetic characters) and do not have
a copy of your "FileBack Registration.dat" file, please
contact Maximum Output Software. Please provide the
original name to which the software was registered, and
the approximate date of registration so we can provide
you with a newer registration code.
We highly recommend that you make a backup copy of your
registration file, "FileBack Registration.dat," which is
located in the FileBack PC program directory. If you
ever need to reinstall FileBack PC you will need this
file or your registration later.
For users of all previous versions
==================================
The configuration file format has changed with this version.
If you are considering going back to a previous version we
highly recommend making a backup of the FileBack.FBCfg
file before running the newer version.
Contacting the Author
=====================
Doug Johnson, the author of FileBack, has been
developing FileBack in his spare time. He also holds
a full time job which prevents him from accepting any
telephone calls for supporting FileBack. However, he
is always accessible via e-mail at mos@inconnect.com.
All inquiries are answered within a matter of one or
two days. If you are having difficulties with FileBack,
send an e-mail message describing your computer
configuration and any problem(s) you are having in detail.
FileBack PC Pricing
===================
Single quantity pricing for FileBack PC 3.0 in U.S. dollars
is as follows:
$20 Standalone version registration code [817]
$25 Standalone version diskette [818]
$30 Network enabled version registration code [835]
$35 Network enabled version diskette [836]
$230 Ten-user network enabled license [1387]
The standalone version will allow any non-network drive to
be used as a FileBack source or destination. The network
enabled version adds the ability to access network drives,
and supports automatic network drive mapping. For a
home environment the standalone version should meet all
needs. We recommend that businesses register the network
version.
